Gateway Recreation and Lodging is located within hunting distance of four of the most productive moose hunting zones in Maine (Zones 7, 8, 13, 14); see map below. The success rate for all hunters in Maine in 2000 was 85%.
A hunter who stayed with us during the 1999 moose hunting season saw 17 bulls in Zone 8 during the first two days of hunting. He took a cow on the third day (cow only permit).
Active woodlands operations in these zones provide excellent feed sources for moose as well as good opportunities to locate moose. The logging roads provide public access to many excellent hunting locations.
