Gateway Recreation and Lodging is located near some of the best ruffed grouse hunting in the state of Maine. Woodcock are also available.
The mixed forestland in the Upper Kennebec Valley area provides ideal habitat for the ruffed grouse. Logging roads provide access to hundreds of square miles of habitat.
Grouse hunting in Maine begins October 1st of each year.
Many people enjoy the first day of the season because it allows them to participate in a traditional Cast and Blast. You can fish many of the small ponds in the area for brook trout on Sept. 30 and hunt for ruffed grouse on Oct. 1. Gateway Recreation and Lodging can offer a traditional Cast and Blast the entire month of October because the Kennebec River is open to fishing until October 31st whereas fishing on Maine's small ponds ends September 30th.
