Gateway Recreation and Lodging

Hello,

My name is Victor and I will be one of your professional guides here at Gateway Recreation and Lodging.  I have been fishing the Upper Kennebec Valley for ten years with great success.  The Kennebec River, which is located minutes from your cabin, is loaded with rainbow trout, brook trout, and landlocked salmon of impressive size.  I specialize in fly-fishing for these beautiful fish which are always willing to put up a great fight.  I also fly-fish many of the small ponds in the area for native brook trout.  These trips can be very productive with the chance to catch one of the areas trophy brook trout.

I can also plan trips which cover other interests as well.  Imagine snowmobiling in areas where the typical trail rider never sees.  Imagine photographing a moose or coyote that has been called to within mere yards of your hiding spot.  I can work with you to develop a plan that meets all your needs.

Transportation to and from fishing locations

A typical trip on the Kennebec begins in the morning and consists of wading some of the most productive stretches of the river.  Half day trips are the norm since midday usually brings a rise in the water level due to electrical generation at Wyman Station.  For full day trips I like to combine the morning flyfishing on the Kennebec with an evening on one of the areas beautiful trout ponds, flyfishing for native brook trout.  Flexibility is the key and every effort will be made to provide a productive and enjoyable flyfishing experience.

All fishing trips are Catch And Release!

Rates (half day): $90 (one person), $120 (two people)

Rates (full day): $160 (one person), $210 (two people)

Dead River Float Trips (Lodging not included)

Includes: All equipment

Breakfast and Shore Lunch

Transportation to and from the river

This is a raft trip down the upper stretches of the Dead River.  While known as a whitewater river during heavy releases, our trips occur during periods of low flow releases.  Low flows allow the river to be waded and fished from a raft.  The river boasts a healthy population of trout and landlocked salmon as well as some very feisty smallmouth bass.  And what can I say about the shore lunch.  Lunch choices include Maine lobster, grilled salmon, and great steaks cooked over an open fire.

This full day trip will take you down one of Maine's most beautiful and remote rivers.  The solitude, wildlife, and fish on this trip will make it a trip to remember.

2002 Rates      $450 (1-2 people)        $550 (3 people)

Hunting for Moose Sheds

I have located several areas that moose are frequenting during the winter months.  Moose shed their antlers every year beginning in December on through late February.  These antlers can be impressive in size and you may even be able to find a matched set.  This is a fun way to take home part of the Maine wilderness.   These trips involve snowmobiling and snow shoeing into the moose's backyard and searching for dropped antlers.  You may also get to see the moose themselves.  Snowshoes can be provided.

These trips can also be taken during the Spring months but there is a greater chance that the antlers will be chewed on by mice and other wilderness creatures.

Rates:   $100.00/2 persons  $30 each additional person
